Wedding Photo Shooting

Kristina and Matthias won the second price on our wedding fair LOVE | Hamburg in January 2014. The price was a shooting made by me. Early in the morning, I met the freshly married couple in a wonderful location called „Speicherstadt“ in Hamburg, Germany. Kristina wore a fancy noni dress and Matthias came a little bit more casual. You can see a few impressions about the shooting here.

Colorful Socks and Fireworks

The trend to wear colourful socks to an elegant smoking – you can see it everywhere. Originally this trend came from England (like lots of design trends in the male fashion industry). English men wear colored socks to smokings since the twenties. Regarding today’s wedding, the men wore magenta socks to a Brioni Smoking, matching reverse jewelry and weddingbouqets. In the beginning there were a few rain drops, but later it lightened up and we had the best weather for the shooting. We decided for a shooting in the Schanze („Schanzenviertel“). As a wedding photographer you already know all the parks and spots in Hamburg and they are beautiful, but it is always nice to try something different. The fireworks in the evening was the perfect finish for this wedding. I would like to mention that my assistant took some of the photos (church from above, wedding couple in the car, decoration). I also recommend her as a wedding photographer from 2014 on.

Today Only One Photo

At the moment it is peak season for us wedding photographers, which is why it is hard for me to show you whole weddings on my blog. To shorten the waiting time, I will post some highlights from time to time. I start with a portraits that I shot last week on a wedding in Uelzen.

A Gown to Kneel Down

Not only the dress, Sabrina has put a lot of thought into it to make the wedding an unforgettable event. The result is awesome and makes me as a wedding photographer very happy: lots of great details and a wonderful atmosphere. You could feel the emotions as well, with very insightful moments in the church and with lots of fun in the evening the time went by extremely fast. The gown of the bride will be familiar to most of you, it is from top-designer Vera Wang from New York and it was worn of one of the actresses in the movie Bridewars. The blue suede shoes von NAVYBOOT were the perfect match for this dress. If you visit my blog more often, you will recognize Michael Graaf’s unique flower arrangements. Good work as well from Katharina Jasinski who did the make-up for this wedding. The cut and the smoking of the groom came from Dolzer.

The celebration took place at the Suellberg Hotel, where Michelin Star Chef Karlheinz Hauser prepared an unbelievable delicious dinner. During the lunch break there was a nice reception with harbour view at the Le Carnat Nouveau, the restaurant of Ali Güngörmus, the first turkish chef who got a Michelin star. Accordingly amazing was the cake and muffin buffet (frau larsson, Julies Cake, the knot, die Schoenhaberei, Casa di Falcone) In the evening the King Kamehameha Club Band from the King Ka in Frankfurt and DJ Dedl entertained the crowd with a great music mix. I don’t want to forget something that could be important to one of you. The carpet in the church was from Princessday, Pompons and Lampions are from Miss Étoile und Pom Pom Factory. The menu cards and church brochures were printed with the „Letterpressverfahren“ from Impressiona. The table and seat notes came from Gmund-Papier. I want to mention a special thanks to my intern Natalia Cury which contributed a few very nice pictures to this post. Enjoy!

Dream Wedding in December

This time I would like to show you a few more pictures of this beautiful wedding celebrated over two days in december. Winter weddings normally fit more to a alpine landscape, but apparantly Hamburg is also a nice location. The Maison Mariée organized and planned this wonderful wedding and I am happy that I could shoot this event. For me this was a great experience, a lovely couple, happy guests and a perfectly planned program in a great location. I am happy to share a few more details about this wedding. The first day was the civil ceremony, which was in the Hamburg Planetarium. A wedding in the Planetarium is truly different, a special show which happens after the civil ceremony underlines the importance of the civil ceremony. Following this, the guest were transferred with a tourist roundtrip bus to the St. Michaelis Church in Hamburg. With and escalator we got to the top floor of the church where mulled wine was offered for the guests. Karlheinz Hauser from the Süllberg Hotel served Tapas and other.

Novemberwedding in Hamburg

Really, how can one have a wedding in the rainy month of November? The sun goes down early and if one has bad luck the weather is cold and rainy. No blue sky, no sunshine. This description fits on this wedding and again does not at the same time. Stephie und Tymek decided themselves to get married in November and brought sunshine by themselves to this day with a lot of cheerfulness. These two are the best example that it does not come down to external circumstances but to the bridal couple. The story of their wedding already began earlier: This summer they married in Las Vegas at the one and only „Elvis“, who has the license to marry. But the wedding in November was supposed to be a little bit less trashy.

Thanks to the date being so far towards the end of the year, there were no other marriage ceremonies on this day. This was especially fortunately as Tymek had forgotten the rings at the hotel and had to back to get them. The hotel is worth to be mentioned, too, of course: The couple stayed at the Moevenpick Hotel. There, in the tower suite, they spent their wedding night and got ready before the big appearance. This 4 star hotel is located in an old water tower in the Sternschanzenpark and the view from the suite on the city is simply incomparable.

Stephie’s dress somehow reminded me of the music video Novemberrain from Guns N‘ Roses, although the dress in that video is a little bit more 80’s style. Therefore the wedding in November matched again after all. Following the marriage ceremony we went to the Speicherstadt and took the portray photos in the approaching dusk. Very helpful in this situation was my LED-videolight, which I learned to love in the months during winter. My colleague Nils supported me during the shooting.

After that, the party took place in a place called „Altes Zollamt“. It was organized by the people from Nordevent, who did a great job as they always do. Following the outstanding food, DJ Ivo helped to create the right party atmosphere. The wedding cake and the sweet „sins“ were brought by Zuckermonarchie.

Did I forget something? Yes. I would like to know: Would you marry in November and if yes, why?
